The BBC programme Trust me I’m a doctor, documents Joe, a sufferer of Parkinson’s disease undergoing transcranial therapeutic ultrasound. Joe is a candidate for this type of therapy because he does not respond well to regular medication. Doctors use focused ultrasound energy to ablate parts of the brain associated with the disease. Results are apparent immediately. Unlike other surgical techniques it is non-invasive; the surgery can be performed without removing or modifying the skull.
