The EPSRC ThUNDDAR Network+ in partnership with the IOP’s Physical Acoustics and Medical Physics Groups invite you to a science “speed dating” event on Therapeutic Ultrasound. The objective of this event is to create new research partnerships in Therapeutic Ultrasound amongst academics and clinicians. Involvement of SME’s is also strongly encouraged.
To provide an additional incentive and facilitate the formation of new multidisciplinary collaborations, teams formed at this event will be invited to bid for two awards valued at £50k each (disbursed at 80% FEC for a maximum of 6 months) funded by the EPSRC ThUNDDAR Network+. The selection process for the awards is explained below.
Speed Dating Format
In the morning, we invite interested parties to present a 10 minute pitch for their proposed projects and describe the nature of the collaboration sought. Anyone wishing to pitch must send a title and short abstract to Nader Saffari (email@example.com)
by 13th October 2017 (EDIT: deadline has officially postponed till 2018). In the afternoon, we will facilitate discussions between pitchers and their prospective collaborators through a ‘speed dating’ arrangement. In the event of a successful ‘match’ we invite the participants to submit an ‘expression of interest’ form at the end of the event. The teams that submit these EoI’s will be invited to submit a full proposal within a month from the event. These will be peer reviewed, and the two highest scoring ones will be awarded the pilot project grants.
The proposals will be judged against the following criteria:
- Interdisciplinary nature
- Inter-institutional nature
- Novelty & originality (Nationally & internationally)
- Likelihood of attracting further funding
- Degree to which the proposal addresses an unmet clinical need and feasibility of eventual clinical translation.
- Capacity of the applicants to conduct the proposed work e.g. access to facilities, ability to obtain any necessary ethical approval.
