Nader Saffari is the Professor of Ultrasonics at UCL and the head of the Ultrasonics Group.
His research interests include high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for the ablation of tumours, mathematical modelling of ultrasound (US) propagation and scattering in inhomogeneous tissues, histotripsy for intrahepatic cell delivery, US mediated neuro-modulation, US mediated drug delivery, shear wave tumour detection in the prostate and sono-dynamic antibacterial blood cleansing.
The Ultrasonics Group, which he set up in 1992, has developed both a strong theoretical modelling activity and extensive experimental capabilities. These have been funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), industry and medical charities. The total grant value that he has been in charge of exceeds £6M and has over 130 research publications.
